Manchester United have a stumbling block in their pursuit of Jeremie Frimpong as Bayer Leverkusen are not interested selling him in January.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Caught Offside that Bayer Leverkusen are unwilling to sanction the departure of Jeremie Frimpong. A number of clubs, including Manchester United, are very keen to sign the youngster from the Bundesliga club.

Manchester United have been on a rollercoaster ride as they are currently within touching distance of the top four in the Premier League and can also claim the top spot if they breach Real Sociedad’s defence at least twice in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Erik ten Hag should be credited with the overnight success. But the Manchester United manager has insisted there is a whole lot of room for improvements. And that could start with the arrival of a new right-back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is surplus to requirements, with Diogo Dalot being involved in every single match of this season. But playing the Portuguese international continuously is not the solution as a potential injury could derail their momentum.

Dalot was excellent in the win over West Ham United, and he has already established his authority on the right side of the Manchester defence. The Red Devils will look for suitors in an attempt to offload Wan-Bissaka. And should they succeed, they will go all out for Jeremie Frimpong.

The 21-year-old has been a rage in the Bundesliga, performing consistently week in and week out. With an eye on the coveted place in Netherlands’ World Cup squad, the youngster does not want any distractions and is deeply submerged in his game.

A Manchester City academy product, Frimpong spent a brief amount of his career at Celtic before Bayer Leverkusen came calling in the January of 2021. Celtic inserted a sell-on clause in his contract and will be entitled to a windfall should the player leave the Bundesliga club for a whopping fee.

Die Werkself are currently struggling in the relegation zone in Bundesliga and do not want to sell Frimpong at this crucial juncture. However, if a suitable offer does arrive they might get tempted to cash in on their prized asset.

Manchester United are very adamant to add some competition for Dalot in the squad, and Frimpong could be a suitable candidate. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils sign the young right-back this winter.
