Manchester United have expressed interest in Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong as they aim to build up their squad from the scratch.

According to eminent journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United are planning to raid Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen to secure the service of Jeremie Frimpong in January.

Manchester United have been searching for a suitable competitor for Diogo Dalot, who has established himself as the first-choice right-back under new manager Erik ten Hag. Dalot has not missed a single match across all competitions. But a potential injury to the Portuguese international would be a major blow to Manchester United’s aspirations this term.

The Red Devils assembled a quality side capable of ending the monopoly of Manchester City and Liverpool. Wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have cemented their belief. And the Dutch manager now wants an upgrade over Aaron Wan-Bissaka, whose stock has fallen since the arrival of the new manager.

Persistent injury problems have halted Wan-Bissaka’s progress. And if a suitable offer arrives, it might be the end of his Manchester United career in January.

Frimpong came through the ranks at Manchester City and departed for Scotland in 2019 when Celtic came calling for the youngster. The 21-year-old caught the eye of a number of clubs with his consistent performance, and Bayer Leverkusen earned his rights as they paid a sum in the region of £10 million in 2021.

Celtic had to compensate Manchester City with a substantial fee, and they will be entitled to a windfall should Manchester United agree to a move for the right-back with the Bundesliga outfit.

The Scottish giants inserted a staggering sell-on clause in the contract, and they could be boosted by his sale. Manchester United are unlikely to dig deep in January. But should they manage to stay in contention for a potential title chase, a big offer might be on the cards.

Old Trafford has not witnessed trophy wins for quite a long time, and the current hierarchy might go to all extents to make up their losing ground. Real Madrid are also reportedly eyeing a move for the talented full-back. But Manchester United have the financial might to match their offer.
