Chelsea are looking to improve their attacking options in January, and they have been offered the chance to sign Matheus Cunha from Atletico Madrid.

According to a report from Evening Standard, intermediaries have offered 23-year-old Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha to Chelsea. In addition, the west London club will also have the chance to sign Joao Felix.

Cunha joined Atletico Madrid from Hertha Berlin after impressing in the Bundesliga. But he has not been able to hit top form at the Spanish club so far. The Brazilian striker has struggled to adapt to Diego Simeone’s system. And a move away from the Spanish capital would be ideal for him.

The 23-year-old was a key player for his club during his time in Germany, and he has the potential to succeed in the Premier League. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are willing to provide Cunha with an exit route in January. Given his situation at the Spanish club, Cunha could be available for a reasonable price next month.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly under financial duress after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages. And a number of their players have been linked with January moves, including Cunha. The report adds that Chelsea have been offered the chance to Joao Felix as well.

It is no secret that Chelsea will have to bring in a quality striker in January, especially after the injury blow to Armando Broja. Graham Potter’s attackers have failed to find the net consistently this season. So signing a quality striker in January could be the difference between securing a top-four finish and finishing in the Europa League places.

Chelsea cannot afford to take any risks in January, and they must look to secure a quality signing. Cunha can play anywhere across the front three, and he could prove to be a useful addition for Chelsea. The 23-year-old will be desperate to get his career back on track. His hunger and determination to succeed will be an added bonus for the Blues.

The Brazilian striker is still quite young and will likely develop further. He could improve under the tutelage of Potter and fulfil his potential at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea certainly have the finances to pull off the transfer, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks. But Chelsea have other attackers, like Youssoufa Moukoko, on their radar as well.
