Arsenal are reportedly interested in 23-year-old Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha, a target for Aston Villa and Everton.

According to a report from The Athletic, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is weighing up a potential move for Matheus Cunha following the injury to Gabriel Jesus during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The Brazilian international is also a target for Aston Villa and Everton.

Gabriel Jesus is set to be sidelined for several weeks, and Arsenal have to dip into the transfer market to bring in a quality replacement. The 23-year-old Atletico Madrid forward has had a torrid time at the Spanish club, and he has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent months.

Cunha has scored just twice in 17 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season. And it will be interesting to see if he is willing to pursue a new adventure when the transfer window reopens in January. The report from The Athletic adds that clubs like Wolverhampton Wanderers, Everton, Leeds United, and Aston Villa are keen on securing the services of the player as well.

Wolves were reportedly leading the chase for the 23-year-old. But they may not be willing to accept Atletico Madrid’s financial demands for the attacker. On the other hand, Everton have been long-time admirers of the player, and it will be interesting to see if they decide to reignite their interest in January. They are yet to replace Richarlison properly, and the Brazilian could be the ideal long-time replacement for his compatriot.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is looking to improve his attacking options in January as well, and he has identified the Brazilian attacker as a potential target. As for Arsenal, they are a certainly the biggest club in the race and should be able to lure the 23-year-old to the Emirates if they are truly interested in signing him.

The North London giants are currently at the top of the Premier League table, and they will be hoping to sustain the title race until the very end. The injury to Gabriel Jesus is a huge blow for them, and Arteta must look to bring in an alternative in January. Playing most of the second half of the season without a recognised striker could jeopardise their title chances.

Despite his struggles in La Liga, the 23-year-old Brazilian international remains a top talent. And he could prove to be a quality long-term addition to the Arsenal attack if he manages to recapture his confidence and sharpness. It will be interesting to see if the Gunners beat Aston Villa, Everton, and others in his pursuit.
