Manchester United and Aston Villa will be entangled in a bidding war for Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha.

As per Fichajes, Manchester United and Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the rights of Matheus Cunha. Atletico Madrid are not convinced about his ability and want to cash in on the Brazilian striker.

The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo has made the arrival of a new striker inevitable. And Manchester United have looked at various prospects across the globe. Erik ten Hag only wants a specific kind of player, who would not have any problem in dealing with his demands.

Matheus Cunha only joined Atletico Madrid last year but has mostly played as a second fiddle as Diego Simeone does not seem to rate him very highly. With the Rojiblancos already crashing out of the UEFA Champions League, Simeone wants to reshape his attacking department and wants to raise funds by selling a number of his unwanted players.

For Aston Villa, a lot has changed since the arrival of Unai Emery, and the Spanish coach has reiterated his desire to bring in a new forward of a various profile. The Aston Villa manager is aware of Cunha’s potential after monitoring the Brazilian striker during his time at Villarreal. And Emery views the 23-year-old as a potential backup to Ollie Watkins and Danny Wings.

His reasonable tender age will play a major role in his transfer. But Atletico won’t let Cunha leave on a cut-price deal, and the Spanish giants will grind as much as they can. Manchester United do have the financial resources to fund the move in January as Ronaldo’s contract termination freed a lot of wages.

Erik ten Hag has felt the need for a new attacker despite the arrival of Antony from Ajax in the summer. Marcus Rashford has been the only in-form striker, and Manchester United could definitely work with an extra pair of forwards. At the moment, they seem close to signing Cody Gakpo.

Similarly, Emery will be given a sufficient amount of funds to have his choices of players as the legacy of Steven Gerrard will be hard to let go of. Cunha will be spoilt for choices, and it remains to be seen whether he prefers a move to Manchester United or Aston Villa.
