La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly interested in Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries, valued at €60 million by Inter Milan.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Denzel Dumfries is the latest right-back to pop up on the radar of Barcelona. The Catalan giants are considering signing the Dutch defender next year. But Inter Milan will demand €60 million to part ways with the in-demand full-back.

Denzel Dumfries has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven last year. The 26-year-old was already a highly sought-after player in the market before moving to San Siro. But his consistent performances have kept the high-profile clubs hooked in the last 18 months.

The Dutch defender is enjoying a solid 2022/23 campaign, chipping in with two goals and three assists in 20 appearances. In addition, he was top-class at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Netherlands. And Dumfries’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona being his latest prospective suitor.

Barcelona will enter the market for a right-back next year, as Hector Bellerin has failed to stamp his authority at Spotify Camp Nou. The Spaniard was always going to be a stopgap solution for the Blaugrana after they failed to sign Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Foyth. And Bellerin will likely leave Barcelona amid his links with AS Roma and Real Betis.

In addition, Sergi Roberto has not been an influential player for Barcelona for at least two years. So the Catalan giants need to dip their toes in the market for a right-back. Several players, including Pedro Porro, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And Dumfries is also a viable target.

But the Dutch defender will unlikely fit Barcelona’s budget, with Inter Milan demanding €60 million to part ways with him. With the Blaugrana yet to overcome the never-ending economic woes, they will unlikely shell out €60 million for Dumfries. And with financial superpowers like Chelsea and Manchester United also interested, Barcelona might not have a chance.

So the Blaugrana will be better off pursuing other targets instead of wasting time on Dumfries. But it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants look to bring the down the price tag from €60 million to an acceptable sum. For now, the Dutch defender seems like an impossible target for Barcelona.
