Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly made approaches to sign Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Denzel Dumfries is on Manchester United and Chelsea’s radars. And the two Premier League clubs have sounded out a move for the 26-year-old right-back, valued at €60 million by Inter Milan.

The Dutch defender has been linked with Arsenal as well. Apparently, Inter Milan are prepared to sell the player at the end of the season, and they will demand a fee of around €60 million for the defender.

The Italian giants are looking for a squad overhaul, and they could look to cash in on a number of players in the upcoming windows. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea and Manchester United are prepared to pay the €60 million asking price for the Dutch international.

The 26-year-old Dutchman has proven his quality in Serie A and at the international level over the past year. And Dumfries could prove to be a superb acquisition for both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Manchester United need to sign a player of his quality, especially with Diogo Dalot as their only reliable option at right-back. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and Erik ten Hag has had to use Dalot quite frequently.

Dumfries could compete with the Portuguese international for a starting berth at Manchester United next season. His arrival would give ten Hag more options to work with, thus explaining the interest from Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Dutchman would be an upgrade on Wan-Bissaka, who has been very underwhelming going forward.

As far as Chelsea are concerned, it would be quite surprising to see the Blues sign the player. They already have a quality right-back in Reece James. Although the England international is currently injured, he is a top-class player, and Dumfries might find it difficult to hold down a regular starting berth at Stamford Bridge.

Having the two players would be a major boost for Chelsea, but the move might not be ideal for Dumfries. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. A player of his quality will demand regular first-team football, and a move to Manchester United makes more sense on paper.
