Barcelona and Real Madrid have reportedly initiated the contact to get closer to signing 23-year-old Spanish right-back Pedro Porro.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona and Real Madrid have initiated contact with Pedro Porro. The 23-year-old is slowly becoming one of the most highly sought-after right-backs in the market.
Pedro Porro has found a stable footing since joining Sporting CP from Manchester City. The Portuguese giants had initially signed the Spanish right-back on loan for two years. But they did not hesitate in completing his permanent transfer this past summer, with the player going from strength to strength at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
The 23-year-old is enjoying a superb 2022/23 season, chipping in with seven assists in 17 outings thus far. But Porro missed out on the plane to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with Luis Enrique sticking with Dani Carvajal and Cesar Azpilicueta. However, that has not hampered his suitors, with Barcelona and Real Madrid keen on signing him.
Barcelona will offload Hector Bellerin next summer, with the Spaniard reportedly closing in on joining AS Roma. In addition, Sergi Roberto is a shell of the player he was a few years ago, with fitness issues plaguing him. So Barcelona will need to invest in a right-back sometime next year, depending on when the budget permits an outlay.
Several right-backs have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Pedro Porro also a viable target. But while the Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old Spanish right-back, they will have to fend off stiff competition from Real Madrid in the race to sign him from Sporting CP.
Real Madrid will need an alternative for Dani Carvajal, with the Spaniard’s performance levels waning in the last few years. With fitness issues taking a toll on the veteran defender, Los Blancos will have to invest in a solid option. Porro is thus an option worth considering. And Real Madrid and Barcelona have made exploratory contact for the former Manchester City defender.
In addition to Barcelona and Real Madrid, Juventus and Tottenham are also interested in Porro. And the two other clubs have also initiated contact for the 23-year-old Spanish right-back. So with Porro’s performances alerting several bigwigs, it will be interesting to see if he moves to a top club next year.
