La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly monitoring 21-year-old Portuguese international Goncalo Ramos after his exploits at the World Cup.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Goncalo Ramos has emerged on the radar of Barcelona. The Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the progress of the 21-year-old Benfica striker after his performances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Goncalo Ramos has become the talk of the town after his exploits at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In particular, the Portuguese international burst into the limelight after his sensational hat trick against Switzerland. And clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester United have already shown interest in him.
The 21-year-old has also been in fine form in the Primeira Liga, where he is the top scorer with nine goals. And Ramos has become a talismanic striker for Benfica since the departure of Darwin Nunez. The player’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona being the latest club to show interest in him.
Barcelona signed a world-class striker, Robert Lewandowski, in the summer transfer window. And the veteran striker has hit the ground running for the Blaugrana this season. But it is worth noting that the former Bayern Munich ace is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his career.
So Barcelona will need to lay down a succession plan for the 34-year-old in the coming months. Several strikers have thus emerged on the Catalan club’s radar, including Youssoufa Moukoko. And Goncalo Ramos is also a viable target for Barcelona, with the 21-year-old having his best years ahead of him.
The 21-year-old Portuguese international can learn the ropes from Lewandowski before taking over as the first-choice striker. But Barcelona might not be in the equation for the player for long, as Benfica will reportedly demand around €120 million for him. Compared to that, Moukoko might arrive as a free agent.
So Barcelona might be better off pursuing the Borussia Dortmund striker. But it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants raise enough money to sign Goncalo Ramos from Benfica. For now, the 21-year-old Portuguese international has emerged on the Catalan club’s radar.
