Barcelona will reportedly face stiff competition from Chelsea and Manchester United for versatile Argentine defender Juan Foyth.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juan Foyth remains a target for Barcelona. Chelsea and Manchester United have also enquired about the possibility of signing the versatile Argentine defender. But Villarreal will only let him leave if a suitor shells out €42 million.
Juan Foyth has stabilised his stuttering career since joining Villarreal from Tottenham two years ago. The 24-year-old would have had many hopes and aspirations when Spurs became his first European club. But the player failed to progress as well as he would have liked and was a bit-part figure at the north London outfit.
However, the versatile Argentine defender has turned his career around since moving to Villarreal. But he has endured a difficult 2022/23 season thus far as fitness issues have restricted him to just six appearances, where he has grabbed two assists. That said, Foyth remains a top target for several European bigwigs, including Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester United.
Barcelona will need to invest in a right-back next year, with Hector Bellerin failing to make his mark thus far. And the Spaniard will likely depart from the Catalan club in 2023, thus compelling them to scour the market for a replacement. And Foyth, who Barcelona targeted in the summer, is now a priority for the Blaugrana.
As for Chelsea, Reece James’s absence has taught the Blues a stern lesson, with Graham Potter unable to cope without the Englishman. The west Londoners will thus dip their toes in the market for a right-back, with Denzel Dumfries their top target. And Foyth is also an option worth considering for Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Dumfries is also a target for Manchester United, with the Red Devils having several options on their radar. And with Aaron Wan-Bissaka likely to depart from Old Trafford next year, Foyth has emerged as a viable target.
But Villarreal will only let the versatile Argentine defender leave if a suitor shells out €42 million. That had been a problem for Barcelona in the summer transfer window. However, Chelsea and Manchester United should not have any qualms about paying €42 million for Foyth if they view him as a top target. It will be interesting to see if his Villarreal adventure ends next year.
