Memphis Depay is reportedly in advanced talks with Serie A giants over a January move, with Barcelona looking for €2 million in his exchange.

According to a report by SPORT, Memphis Depay is closing in on joining AS Roma. The Dutch forward is in advanced talks with the Serie A giants over a move in the January transfer window. And Barcelona will demand €2 million to part ways with the wantaway attacker.

Memphis Depay has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Barcelona in a Bosman move last year. The 28-year-old would have thought that he had done enough to earn a long rope at Camp Nou after finishing the 2021/22 season as Barcelona’s joint-top scorer. But he is now a bit-part player for the Blaugrana.

In addition, a hamstring injury has hampered the Dutch forward further. And he has managed only 131 minutes of game time across three outings thus far. So Depay is keen on leaving Barcelona in January, with Serie A giants AS Roma ready to secure his services.

Jose Mourinho does not have a reliable wide attacker at his disposal. And the AS Roma attack has flattered to deceive thus far this season. So it is hardly surprising that the Serie A giants want to bolster their offensive unit when the transfer window reopens in January.

Depay has thus emerged as a viable target for the Giallorossi. The Barcelona forward’s eagerness to depart from Camp Nou gives Roma the incentive to pursue him. And according to the report, the Serie A giants are in advanced talks with the 28-year-old over a January move.

In addition, Roma and Barcelona are in contact over the possibility of a deal this winter. And the Blaugrana will demand around €2 million to part ways with Depay in the January transfer window. While Depay has been keen on leaving Barcelona as a free agent to recoup a handsome transfer bonus, that seems unlikely.

Meanwhile, Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff has squashed rumours surrounding the 28-year-old. Cruyff recently insisted that the Catalan giants do not want to sell Depay amid their inability to sign a player in January. So it will be interesting to see if a move to Serie A materialises for the Dutchman.
