Memphis Depay reportedly wants to leave Barcelona as a free agent in the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order at Camp Nou.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Memphis Depay has made his mind up about his Barcelona future. The Dutch attacker is keen on departing from Spotify Camp Nou as a free agent in the January transfer window to resurrect his stuttering career.

Memphis Depay joined Barcelona in a Bosman move in July 2021 after running down his Lyon contract. And the 28-year-old enjoyed a decent debut season, ending 2021/22 as the Catalan club’s joint-top scorer. But it has all been downhill since then for the player, who Barcelona wanted to sell in the summer.

But the Dutch attacker remained at Spotify Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window and fell to the bottom of the pecking order. Depay has managed only three appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring one goal. And he has not featured for the Blaugrana since the international break, where he sustained a hamstring injury.

While Depay has recovered from the injury, he has sought Barcelona’s permission to return to the Netherlands to continue his rehabilitation. The former Manchester United attacker has been wanting to return to his homeland for some time but finally received permission last weekend.

The 28-year-old was thus not with the Catalan giants when they faced Osasuna earlier this week. And Depay now wants to leave Barcelona in the January transfer window. And the player is keen on departing from Spotify Camp Nou as a free agent as he wants to receive a transfer bonus from his next club.

The Dutch international does not want Barcelona to receive any profit from his sale after their treatment this season. He might not have any shortage of suitors either, with several Premier League clubs keen on signing him.

A move to Juventus, which fell through in the summer, might also be possible, with the Serie A giants reigniting their interest. But it will be interesting to see if Barcelona will be open to letting him leave as a free agent.
