Serie A heavyweights Juventus have reportedly set their sights on Barcelona forward Memphis Depay again after failing to sign him in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from Juventus over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Serie A heavyweights want to reopen the negotiations to sign the Barcelona forward that broke in the summer.

Memphis Depay has landed in a spot of bother despite a decent debut season with Barcelona. The Dutch attacker joined the Blaugrana in a Bosman move last year after running down his contract with Lyon. And he ended 2021/22 as the joint-top scorer for Barcelona. But Depay has fallen to the bottom of the pecking order following the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha.

With Ansu Fati regaining fitness and Ousmane Dembele rediscovering his best form, game time has come sparingly for the 28-year-old. A hamstring injury sustained during the international break has hampered him further. Depay has consequently managed only 131 minutes of action. And Barcelona will look to sell the player in January, with Juventus keen on signing him.

Juventus had shown interest in Depay in the summer transfer window. The Serie A heavyweights pursued him for weeks before the move broke down. And the Bianconeri ended up securing the services of Arkadiusz Milik after looking beyond the Barcelona forward. But with Juventus failing to perform consistently thus far in 2022/23, Depay has emerged on their radar again.

While Milik has been top-notch for the most part, Dusan Vlahovic has blown hot and cold. In addition, Angel Di Maria has encountered fitness issues, while Federico Chiesa is only just making his way back from a long-term injury. Depay is thus a viable target for Juventus.

Barcelona will hope to recoup something from Depay’s sale in January instead of letting him leave for free next summer. The player’s departure will help the Catalan giants balance their books while opening up space for a new signing. And Juventus will look to reopen talks that broke down in the summer. But the Serie A heavyweights will likely face competition for Depay’s signature.

Recent reports have claimed that Depay is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. Premier League clubs are also showing interest in the Barcelona forward. So it will be interesting to see if Juventus can belatedly secure the services of the 28-year-old in the January transfer window.
