Jose Mourinho reportedly wanted to reunite with Barcelona forward Memphis Depay at Serie A club AS Roma next year.

According to a report by Tuttosport, as relayed by Fichajes, Memphis Depay is the subject of interest from AS Roma. The Serie A giants want to sign the Barcelona forward next year and might launch the offensive in the January transfer window.

Memphis Depay will be desperate to resurrect his stuttering career in the January transfer window. The Dutchman joined Barcelona in the most significant move of his career and enjoyed a superb first half of the 2021/22 season. But his stock has plummeted this year following the arrival of several attacking players.

The 28-year-old has been a bit-part player for Barcelona this season, with a hamstring injury further hampering him. As a result, Depay has managed only 131 minutes of game time for Barcelona. That starkly contrasts his efforts for the Netherlands, as he has racked up 222 minutes of action at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

So Depay will likely leave Barcelona in the January transfer window. And recent reports have claimed that he wants to depart from Spotify Camp Nou as a free agent to rake in a handsome transfer bonus. And the attacker’s next destination might be Serie A, with AS Roma keen on signing him.

Jose Mourinho wants to reunite with the Barcelona forward next year, although he is undecided on the timeline of the move. The Portuguese tactician wants AS Roma to bolster the offensive unit after a sub-par first half of the season. And the interest makes sense, considering the lack of a top wide attacker in the Serie A club’s first-team squad.

Depay might have struggled to make his mark for Barcelona this season. But he has shown with his performances at the World Cup that he is still a game-changer. So AS Roma will be optimistic if the Barcelona forward arrives at Stadio Olimpico. But the Serie A giants are unclear if they want to pursue him in January or next summer. Meanwhile, Depay is not the only Barcelona player on Roma’s radar.

Recent reports have claimed that Hector Bellerin is closing in on joining the Serie A outfit. And it will be interesting to see if the Spaniard reunites with the Dutch international at AS Roma next year.
