Versatile Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus is reportedly keen on joining a Premier League club, thus handing Barcelona a blow.

According to a report by The Sun, Mohammed Kudus is the subject of interest from Barcelona. But the Blaugrana will have to toil hard to sign the Ghanaian attacker, whose price tag is around £40 million, as he wants to join a Premier League club when he leaves Ajax.

Mohammed Kudus has seen his career transform since failing to secure a move away from Ajax in the summer. The 22-year-old had been a bit-part player for the Dutch giants until the end of the 2021/22 season. But he has established himself as a pivotal figure this term, amassing ten goals and two assists in 21 outings.

In addition, the versatile attacker has also made his mark on the international stage. While Ghana went out of the group stage at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he scored two goals in their only win over South Korea. And Kudus’s performances have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Barcelona.

Kudus is primarily a no. 10, so he is not a natural fit in Barcelona’s system. But the 22-year-old can play as a central striker and a no. 8, thus explaining the interest. He can be a solid addition to the midfield unit amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Franck Kessie. In addition, the Ajax attacker might become an alternative to Robert Lewandowski.

So the Ghanaian international is a viable target for Barcelona heading into 2023. But signing Kudus will not be a cakewalk for the Blaugrana. On the contrary, Barcelona will have to toil hard to get any closer to landing the youngster, who wants to join a Premier League club. In addition, his price tag, worth £40 million, also poses a problem.

Kudus has no shortage of suitors from the Premier League. Manchester United recently joined the race to sign him. He is also a target for Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham. But Kudus wants to join a club that can offer him UEFA Champions League football.

So how the Premier League season ends will determine where the 22-year-old lands. Paying £40 million should not be a problem for any Premier League club. So Barcelona will likely miss out on the versatile Ajax attacker next year.
