Memphis Depay is not interested in joining La Liga giants Sevilla when he leaves Barcelona in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Memphis Depay has no interest in joining Sevilla in the January transfer window. The Dutch forward will leave Barcelona this coming winter but will not move to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium due to the absence of UEFA Champions League football and wage issues.

Memphis Depay finds himself in a pickle despite playing for one of the best clubs in the world. The 28-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season with Barcelona, finishing 2021/22 as their joint-top scorer. But the ominous signs were visible in the second half of the campaign as he fell down the pecking order.

Things have gone from bad to worse this term, with Depay now at the bottom of the preference list for Xavi Hernandez. In addition, a hamstring injury has meant that the Dutch forward has managed only 131 minutes of game time across three outings. And the player will likely leave Barcelona in the January transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that Depay is keen on leaving Barcelona this coming winter. And he will prefer to depart from Spotify Camp Nou as a free agent to recoup a handsome transfer bonus. The player does not have a shortage of suitors either, with Sevilla reportedly keen on keeping him in La Liga.

The Andalusian giants want to sign Depay to resurrect a disastrous 2022/23 campaign. With several attackers failing to stamp their authority, Sevilla will look at Depay as a potential solution to get them back on track this term. But Depay does not want to join Los Nervionenses in January.

The absence of UEFA Champions League football is one of the reasons for Depay’s stance. In addition, Sevilla will not be able to afford his wages, thus compelling the Barcelona forward to seek alternate solutions. Meanwhile, Barcelona will look to cash in on Depay instead of letting him leave as a free agent.

With the player unwilling and unlikely to move across La Liga, a move abroad is on the cards. But it will be interesting to see where the Dutch forward lands when he leaves Barcelona in the January transfer window.
