Serie A giants Inter Milan will reportedly have the chance to sign out-of-favour Barcelona forward Memphis Depay in January.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Inter Milan might look to part ways with Joaquin Correa in the January transfer window. And Barcelona might offer Memphis Depay to the Serie A giants as a replacement for the Argentine forward.
Memphis Depay has seen his stock plummet considerably since joining Barcelona in a Bosman move last year. The Dutch attacker started the 2021/22 season strongly and ended the term as Barcelona’s top scorer. But he has gradually fallen down the pecking order at Spotify Camp Nou in 2022.
The first blow came when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ferran Torres arrived in January. And Depay has become a peripheral figure following the addition of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. Injury woes have not helped either, and the 28-year-old has managed only four outings this season. And he might soon be on his way to Serie A.
Recent reports have linked Depay with Juventus, who showed interest in him in the summer transfer window. And according to Calciomercatoweb, the Barcelona forward is also a target for Serie A champions AC Milan. But his next destination might be another big Italian club, Inter Milan.
The report claims that Barcelona will soon offer Depay to the Nerazzurri, who might look to offload Joaquin Correa in January. And while Simone Inzaghi is against the idea of parting ways with the Argentine, a sale might be on the cards. The Dutch attacker is thus a viable target for Inter Milan.
While Depay has blown hot and cold at FC Barcelona, he showed at Lyon that he can spearhead a team’s attack. The 28-year-old has also been the leading light for the Netherlands on the international stage. So Inter Milan might benefit from taking up Barcelona’s offer to sign the player.
But while Barcelona might look to recoup something from Depay’s sale in January, the player wants to leave as a free agent. A free transfer might also be attractive for Inter Milan, and it will be interesting to see if he continues his career in Serie A.
