Barcelona will reportedly have to fend off stiff competition from Bayern Munich to sign in-form PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Cody Gakpo is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The in-demand PSV Eindhoven attacker is also a target for Barcelona and will likely earn a big move next year.

Cody Gakpo has become the talk of the town in the transfer market on the back of a sensational 2022 thus far. The 23-year-old had enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign but has taken his game up several notches this season. At the same time, he is now a pivotal figure for the Netherlands.

The in-demand Dutch attacker has an excellent record of 13 goals and 16 assists in 22 outings in all competitions this term. And Gakpo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with several of Europe’s high-profile clubs keen on signing him. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are two of his prospective suitors.

Barcelona will continue the rebuild under Xavi Hernandez in 2023, with a few sweeping changes on the horizon. The offensive unit might also see some surgery, with Memphis Depay and Ferran Torres facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou. So Barcelona will have to enter the market for an attacking reinforcement.

Gakpo has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana. But Barcelona will not be the only club in the transfer tussle to land the 23-year-old attacker. The Catalan giants face stiff competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign the PSV Eindhoven talisman.

Bayern Munich bolstered the offensive unit by signing Sadio Mane this past summer. But their attack has blown hot and cold since Robert Lewandowski’s departure. And while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has stepped up wonderfully this season, Bayern can still do with an attacking addition. And the versatile Gakpo is an option worth considering for the Bundesliga champions.

In addition to Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Manchester United are also vying for the 23-year-old attacker. The in-demand PSV talisman will thus likely embark on a new adventure in 2023. And it will be interesting to see where Gakpo moves when he eventually departs from the Philips Stadion.
