Manchester City are reportedly looking to offer Bernardo Silva, a target for Barcelona, a new contract.

According to a report from Football Insider, Bernardo Silva was a target for Barcelona during the summer transfer window, and the Catalan giants could return for him in January. Manchester City are looking to offer him a lucrative contract to fend off interest from other clubs.

The 28-year-old has established himself as a key player for Manchester City since joining the club from AS Monaco. And Silva is a part of Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans at the Etihad.

The Portuguese playmaker has helped Manchester City win numerous domestic trophies and Premier League titles so far. And he will hope to help them win the UEFA Champions League this season.

The report from Football Insider claims that Silva is currently earning around £150,000 per week and has a contract until the summer of 2025. However, Manchester City are prepared to reward him for his performances and consistency with a lucrative package now.

If Silva ends up signing the new contract, the whole package could be worth around £46 million, and it would be a five-year contract. The Portuguese international is at the peak of his powers right now, and letting him leave would be foolish from the Premier League champions.

Silva is a world-class player who is capable of performing at a very high level across multiple positions in the midfield. The 28-year-old is an indispensable asset for Manchester City, and his departure would come as a massive blow to the club.

It is understandable why top clubs like Barcelona have been keen on signing him. He can improve almost every team across Europe, and it would be a major coup for the Spanish giants if they managed to secure his services. Recent reports have claimed that Manchester City playmaker remains a priority target for Barcelona.

That said, Manchester City are a team capable of challenging for trophies every season, and they have no shortage of resources. They will hope that their ambition and financial capabilities are enough to convince Silva to commit his long-term future to the club in the coming weeks. But Barcelona will also be battling for his signature in 2023.
