Bernardo Silva is reportedly poised to remain at Manchester City beyond the summer transfer window amid interest from Barcelona.

According to a report by The Athletic, Barcelona will unlikely sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City before the ongoing transfer window shuts down. The Portuguese playmaker is ready to commit himself to the Premier League champions for the 2022/23 season, with the Citizens demanding €100 million to part ways with him.

Bernardo Silva has become a highly sought-after player in the market following a scintillating 2021/22 campaign with Manchester City. The 28-year-old turned his fortunes around brilliantly, becoming a pivotal figure after expressing his desire to depart from the Etihad to secure regular game-time.

But Pep Guardiola gave Silva the chance to shine in the 2021/22 season, and he did that with elan. However, the Portuguese playmaker’s future has continued to be uncertain in the early days of the 2022/23 campaign, and he wants to join Barcelona. But with Manchester City slapping a €100 million price tag on him, the prospect of a move has faded.

Silva has maintained that he will remain professional and not agitate to complete his desired move. And that has worked in Manchester City’s favour, with the Portuguese international ready to commit himself to the reigning Premier League champions for the 2022/23 season, even though he is yet to start a game this term.

Barcelona had been pushing hard to bring Silva in as a long-term replacement for Frenkie de Jong, who they want to sell to lighten the wage bills and register the remaining players. Reports had even claimed that they had agreed to a deal to sign the 28-year-old playmaker before Manchester City refuted such claims. And the €100 million price tag has ruled Barcelona out of the running.

Pep Guardiola admitted at one point that Silva might depart from the Etihad this summer. But the Manchester City manager’s latest comments suggested he does not want to lose the Portuguese international this summer. And with Silva ready to commit his future to Manchester City, a move to Barcelona is fading.

It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can do anything to reverse the tide and bring Silva to Camp Nou before the summer transfer window. But with Manchester City determined to recoup €100 million to part ways with Silva, a move will unlikely see the light of day.
