Serie A champions AC Milan have reportedly initiated discussions to land Brahim Diaz permanently from Real Madrid.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, AC Milan will look to secure the services of Brahim Diaz on a permanent deal in 2023. The Serie A champions have opened talks with Real Madrid to discuss a move for the 23-year-old playmaker.
Brahim Diaz was one of the most highly-rated young prospects plying their trade in England during his four-year stint with Manchester City. But he might have had lofty aspirations when he returned to Spain by joining Real Madrid in January 2019. However, the Spaniard barely made progress at Real Madrid before joining AC Milan on loan in September 2020.
The 23-year-old has made gradual progress at San Siro since then, as he has featured more frequently for AC Milan. Diaz has a decent record for the Rossoneri this season, chipping in with two goals and one assist in seven Serie A outings. And the reigning Italian champions want to sign Diaz permanently from Real Madrid.
Diaz should benefit from leaving Real Madrid permanently as he will unlikely have a defined role at the Santiago Bernabeu. The reigning La Liga champions usually play in a 4-3-3 formation, which does not suit the Spanish playmaker as he revels from a central role.

On the other hand, Diaz has a set role in Stefano Pioli’s 4-2-3-1 system, which bodes well for his growth. And while AC Milan signed Charles De Ketelaere in the summer, the Belgian international should have a healthy competition with the 23-year-old. But Diaz might fancy his chances after a match-winning display against Juventus this past weekend.
The Serie A champions have already initiated discussions with Real Madrid to sign Diaz on a permanent deal. It will be interesting to see if the Merengues are receptive to selling the Spanish playmaker in 2023.
For now, it is clear that AC Milan will look to sign Brahim Diaz permanently in a transfer window in 2023. In the coming weeks and months, it will also be interesting to see where the 23-year-old stands on joining the Serie A giants for good.
