Fulham are closing in on signing Kevin Mbabu in a €6 million deal, after holding advanced talks with Wolfsburg over a transfer.

According to Kicker, Fulham are set to sign Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu in a €6 million deal. The two clubs are well advanced in their discussions for the Swiss star, as Marco Silva aims to bring a quality player for the position.

Fulham have been heavily active during the last weeks of the transfer window. Marco Silva has been eager to bring in quality reinforcements ahead of the new season, which will be a test of his character, as he aims to keep the club afloat in the Premier League.

Fulham spent considerably when they were last promoted to the top flight, but ended up suffering relegation. However, Silva is determined to bring in players that could help the Cottagers make a concerted effort to fight off the threat of a return to the EFL Championship.

Joao alhinha has been the star acquisition so far in the window, and Silva wants more players to come in. Manor Salomon is earmarked to join the club and bring in quality in the attacking third, while the west London club are also searching for a new right-back.

Liverpool’s Neco Williams was a target, but Nottingham Forest have agreed a £17 million fee to sign him. With the Welsh international out of bounds, Fulham’s search for the full-back may end at Wolfsburg, with Kevin Mbabau now primed to become their latest arrival.

Fulham had made an offer earlier for the right-back, and now Kicker claims that the Switzerland defender is close to joining in a deal worth €6 million. Both clubs are in advanced discussions over a move, with the 27-year-old former Newcastle United ace expected to become a Cottager in the coming days.

Mbabu has been an important part of this Wolfsburg side, although his contractual situation may have forced the German side’s hand to accept a knocked-down price. €6 million for a 27-year-old entering his prime could be considered a bargain.

Mbabu will certainly improve the quality at right-back for the Cottagers, who continue to search for more players to increase the standards of their squad. For €6 million he could also prove to be a cost-effective solution compared to the fee quoted for Liverpool’s Williams.
