Tottenham battle Arsenal for Victor Osimhen

Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United set to meet with agents of Victor Osimhen.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen.

Italian journalist Lorenzo Amuso has recently spoken to Calciomercato.it, offering a valuable update on the future of Victor Osimhen. The Napoli frontman has become a target for a host of clubs across Europe, including the two north London giants in Tottenham and Arsenal.

Osimhen himself is believed to be keen on leaving Napoli after two fruitful years in Naples that saw him 28 goals in just over 60 competitive appearances. During his time in Italy, the young forward has mesmerized the onlookers with his dynamism, positional intelligence, and ability to make the most of goalscoring opportunities.

But after a couple of years of success, Osimhen is open to new challenges elsewhere. A move to Premier League has been mooted as a possibility, especially with Tottenham joining the race to sign the young forward, while Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester United are known to be keen admirers as well.

After securing a top-four finish last season, Tottenham are in an excellent position to attract star players ahead of the new season. The Lilywhites have already roped in Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan, and their sporting director Fabio Paratici wants to make another coup by acquiring Osimhen.

However, it is difficult to imagine Osimhem joining Tottenham, knowing the north Londoners already boast the services of Harry Kane. Although Antonio Conte is privy to the idea of deploying two strikers upfront, splashing the cash on Osimhen as the supporting forward is something the Tottenham board is unlikely to approve.

It leaves their arch-rivals Arsenal in the driver’s seat, in the pursuit of the Nigerian international. The Gunners currently have a vacancy in the goalscoring department following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s January move to Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette’s return to Lyon this summer.

Arsenal have managed to extend the contract of Eddie Nketiah, but coach Mikel Arteta will be keen on acquiring a more proven option upfront. That is where Osimhen comes into the fray, with the Napoli frontman having a solid track record in both France and Italy.

Arsenal, though, had their initial bid for Osimhen rejected, earlier this summer. And with the striker still having a contract with Napoli until 2025, it is plausible the Gunners could be priced out of a move for the Nigerian international this summer.
