Everton have reportedly made a formal offer to James Tarkowski, a soon-to-be free agent, after his Burnley contract expires.

According to journalist Ryan Taylor, James Tarkowski has an offer from Everton, who are accelerating their efforts to sign the 29-year-old English defender. After his Burnley contract expires, he will be a free agent and could evaluate multiple proposals from other Premier League clubs.

James Tarkowski could have forced a move out of Burnley in January when Newcastle United showed an interest in the defender. However, instead of cashing in, the Clarets decided it may not be wise to sell the centre-back to a relegation rival, and the club kept hold of his services.

Even before Burnley’s eventual relegation from the Premier League, Tarkowski was expected to leave the club in the summer when his contract was up. However, the English international has actually done so and is free to sign with any club, as he would prefer a top-tier side to continue his playing career.

Many clubs are vying for the centre-back’s signature, and there could be multiple offers on the table. Fulham were reportedly interested in signing Tarkowski, as Marco Silva wanted experienced players to guide them on their return season.

There is also the case of Aston Villa, who were initially competing for the 29-year-old defender. However, the Villans have since signed Diego Carlos from Sevilla, which may have prematurely ended their pursuit of Tarkowski. However, that does not mean he has no other suitors.

Everton, for one, have been confident about signing Tarkowski for some time now. Frank Lampard wants to shore up his defence with experienced players, and the 29-year-old defender represents good value. Moreover, his availability on a free transfer suits the Toffees perfectly, considering their ongoing struggles with balancing their books.

Everton have now reportedly tabled a formal offer for Tarkowski to consider. It could include a significant pay rise from his Burnley salary. Whether Everton will sign the English international remains to be seen. However, the Toffees could be a good destination for the 29-year-old centre-back to continue his career in the top-flight.
