Real Madrid might need to be wary of Manchester City in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe, with the Citizens reportedly keen on signing the PSG man.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester City might look to steal a march on Real Madrid in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The French forward will likely leave Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Kylian Mbappe has taken little time to establish himself as one of the world’s best players. The 23-year-old has been clear of his peers in Ligue 1 since he broke through at AS Monaco half a decade ago. And he has become a force to be reckoned with during his ongoing five-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain.
The French international has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, amassing 33 goals and 22 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. But Mbappe is seemingly destined to leave PSG as a free agent in the summer transfer window unless his situation changes dramatically. And for a long time, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s next destination has appeared to be Real Madrid.
Real Madrid attempted to sign Mbappe for a nine-figure sum last summer, but PSG firmly held on to the Frenchman in the hopes of tying him down to a bumper new contract. With Les Parisiens’ attempts proving futile, the interest from Real Madrid has grown stronger, with Los Blancos ready to offer him a €50 million-a-year contract.
Mbappe could be the long-sought Cristiano Ronaldo successor at Real Madrid, with the youngster giving the Merengues the best years of his career, much like the Portuguese forward before him. But Real Madrid will have to be wary of the threat posed by Manchester City in the race to sign Mbappe.
Real Madrid might be on the verge of losing one priority target in Erling Haaland to Manchester City. And the Premier League champions could look to steal a march on the Spanish giants in the race to sign Mbappe, which could be a surprising move from the Citizens unless Raheem Sterling calls it quits at the Etihad.

Recent reports have claimed that the Merengues are confident of securing the services of Mbappe in the summer transfer window. But amid the looming threat of Manchester City, Real Madrid might have to intensify the efforts to land the PSG talisman in a Bosman move.
