Barcelona and PSG are reportedly battling Juventus in the race to sign Chelsea midfield maestro Jorginho in the summer.
According to a report by La Repubblica, as relayed by Get Italian Football News, Jorginho will be a hot property in the summer transfer window. The Chelsea midfield maestro is the subject of a transfer tussle involving Barcelona, PSG, Juventus and AC Milan.
Jorginho joined Chelsea from Napoli in July 2018, following Maurizio Sarri to Stamford Bridge. But the Italian international did not enjoy a bright start to his stint with the Blues and was out of sorts in his maiden campaign. But Jorginho has ironically played his best football at Chelsea after Sarri left the west London club in 2019, excelling under Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea’s midfield general has gone from strength to strength in the last three years, and in the ongoing campaign, he has nine goals and four assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. But Jorginho faces an uncertain future at Chelsea, with his contract expiring in a little over a year. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and PSG, among others.
The interest from Barcelona is surprising, considering Franck Kessie is on the verge of joining them on a free transfer. Kessie’s arrival will leave Xavi Hernandez with plenty of top-class midfielders at his disposal, meaning there is no need for Barcelona to sign Jorginho.
Interestingly, the Catalan giants have also been linked with Jorginho’s Chelsea teammates Mason Mount. But while pursuing him might not make much sense, Barcelona will be in the race to sign the 30-year-old, as per La Repubblica, with PSG providing stiff competition to them.
Unlike Barcelona, PSG will need to invest in holding midfielder in the summer, as Idrissa Gueye has shown signs of decline. At the same time, Ander Herrera is approaching the final phase of his career, while Georginio Wijnaldum has been a dud since arriving from Liverpool last summer.
Apart from Barcelona and PSG, Juventus and AC Milan are also vying for Jorginho, with the former taking steps to secure the services of the Chelsea midfield maestro. But the Italian international’s wage demands could scupper the hopes of Juventus, Milan and Barcelona, leaving PSG are the front-runner in his pursuit.

Meanwhile, Jorginho’s agent recently admitted that signing a new contract with Chelsea is the 30-year-old’s priority. But with Chelsea currently under a transfer embargo due to the sanctions imposed on Roman Abramovich, it is unclear if they will be able to withstand the pressure from suitors like Barcelona, PSG, Juventus, and AC Milan.
