Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting bagged four goals and three assists as Bayern Munich steamrolled SV Bremer, securing a 12-0 victory.

After their initial first-round game was postponed, Bayern Munich advanced to the second round of the DFB Pokal in an emphatic fashion, securing a massive 12-0 win over fifth-tier club Bremer SV.

It was always going to be a David vs Goliath affair, with favourites Bayern making a rampaging start to the contest. Bremer did begin pretty well, remaining composed in possession. But a slight lapse in concentration saw them conceding the opener in the eighth minute. The goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was vital in opening the floodgates, with the Bavarians scoring four more within the first half.

Choupo-Moting went on to star in the entire contest, scoring four goals and registering three assists. A couple of late substitutions made the night even more appealing for Bayern fans as they took advantage of Bremer’s tiring individuals to score four goals in the final ten minutes of the game.

The Rekordmeister had already netted four more goals during the course of the second half, up until the 80th minute. So the late flurry added further gloss to the scoreline, with fringe players like Corentin Tolisso and Michael Cuisance finding the back of the net.

Here, at The Hard Tackle, we will rate the Bayern Munich players in their emphatic 12-0 victory over Bremer SV in this first round Pokal fixture at the Weserstadion this weekend.

Sven Ulreich: 6/10

Filling in for Manuel Neuer in goal, Sven Ulreich had absolutely nothing to do as Bremer SV mustered only one shot on target early on in the game. He had to remain alert but nothing substantial to cause any threat between his posts. A relatively easy clean sheet for the returning goalkeeper.

Bouna Sarr: 9/10

Bouna Sarr made a solid impression in what was a surprise inclusion to the first team. He looked extremely comfortable, getting forward well and offering excellent support. Almost looked too comfortable, and capped off a brilliant display with a late goal.

Tanguy Nianzou: 8/10

Tanguy Nianzou fared well in central defence. He stuck to his task of keeping a close check on Oscar Garcia, giving him no freedom at all in the defensive third for FC Bayern. Julian Nagelsmann will certainly be impressed with his marking ability, although it is hard to make a judgement of a performance against a fifth division side.

Niklas Sule: 7/10

Niklas Sule was asked to play a leader’s role in the new-look backline. He fared well, offering some passes out from the back, though he wasn’t involved much due to the sheer dominance of Bayern Munich in the first half. He was rested at half-time, though.

Omar Richards: 7.5/10

Omar Richards replaced Alphonso Davies to make his competitive debut for FC Bayern. He wasn’t as influential as Sarr, failing to provide anything conclusive in the final third. But he was solid in possession and rotated the ball well while showcasing excellent speed out wide.

Joshua Kimmich: 7/10

Joshua Kimmich dictated the play well in the first half. He offered stability in the middle of the park, often acting as the lone holding midfielder orchestrating things from the centre. A good showing from the German international, who was given a breather at half-time.

Corentin Tolisso: 8.5/10

Corentin Tolisso worked behind scenes for the most part of the game, making useful runs in and around the penalty area and rotating possession in the final third. Capped off a brilliant display with Bayern’s final goal of the night.

Jamal Musiala: 9.5/10

THT’s Player to Watch before the start of the game, Jamal Musiala ran the show in the final third with his silky footwork and determination. He was a livewire throughout, and a menace for the opposition defence, scoring two wonderful goals. Would have gotten another had it not been for the own goal from Jan-Luca Warm. Certainly deserves a start in the next game against Hertha.

Thomas Muller: 7.5/10

Thomas Muller wasn’t as influential as some of the other Bayern Munich in the first half. He still got the job done, making some excellent movements in the final third and linking play well. He was subbed off at half-time, with Julian Nagelsmann having one eye on the upcoming game against Hertha Berlin this weekend.

Leroy Sane: 8/10

It was a vital game for Leroy Sane who simply had to impress in order to avoid falling down the pecking order. He had a decent evening, sometimes lacking precision but offering a threat out wide. He was overshadowed by most of his attacking teammates but a second half goal could give him the confidence he needs for the rest of the campaign.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting: 10/10

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was the undisputed Man of the Match in this game, having been the focal point of the Bayern Munich attack. He was simply way too good for the Bremer defence as he offered a lot of work-rate and linked up with teammates brilliantly in the final third. It made life extremely difficult for the opposition backline.

Choupo-Moting ended the game with a total of four goals and three assists, some of which were quite exquisite. It is certainly an impactful performance that could earn him a more prominent role in the side going forward.

Substitutes

Malik Tillman: 8/10

Malik Tillman replaced Muller after the half-time, causing a menace in the final third with his speed and enthusiasm. It even led to him scoring an early second-half goal.

Michael Cuisance: 8/10

Michael Cuisance made a positive impact after coming on for Kimmich at half-time. He looked confident on the ball, ending up getting a goal for himself late in the game.

Chris Richards: 7.5/10

Chris Richards offered solidity at the back through the second half of the game. Also tried to make a few driving runs, but it was an impressive cameo nonetheless.

Serge Gnabry: 7.5/10

Serge Gnabry made a second-half appearance for Bayern, adding further freshness and quality to the Bayern attack. Involved in almost every Bayern attack and registered one assist at the end.

Taylor Booth: 6.5/10

Taylor Booth made his debut in the 68th minute, replacing Sane. Offered a lot of movements in the final third, though nothing extraordinary. You can learn more about the young American here.
