Yan Couto is reportedly open to joining Real Madrid if the Merengues approach him over a possible move to sign him from Manchester City.

In an interview with Catalan outlet Catalunya Radio, Yan Couto spoke about the possibility of joining Real Madrid. The 21-year-old is currently on loan at La Liga club Girona from Manchester City. And he is open to joining Los Blancos and has given a resounding yes as the reply to the question of moving to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Responding to the question of whether moving to Real Madrid was an option for him, the Brazilian full-back said, “Yes yes. If they are interested it is an option, I will not lie to you.”

Yan Couto has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in La Liga since joining Girona on loan from sister club Manchester City in July 2022. The Catalan outfit signed the young full-back on a two-year deal, and he has been excellent during his temporary stay at Estadi Montilivi.

The 21-year-old has been instrumental in Girona’s fading La Liga title bid, chipping in with one goal and eight assists in 28 league outings thus far this term. Meanwhile, Couto’s progress at the Catalan club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.

Real Madrid’s interest in Yan Couto is understandable. While Dani Carvajal has been exceptional this season, he is on the wrong side of 30. In addition, Lucas Vazquez is also into his thirties, with the experienced Spanish utility man only good enough to be a backup option for Real Madrid.

So, it behoves Los Blancos to invest in a right-back in the summer transfer window (or the next). Couto has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, although they also have other candidates on their wishlist. The Manchester City loanee’s comments will have come as a boost for the Spanish heavyweights.

With Couto open to joining Real Madrid, an offer to Manchester City might be all that stands between the 21-year-old Brazilian prospect and a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. It will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day.
