Real Madrid will reportedly prioritise signing 21-year-old Brazilian international Yan Couto, on loan at Girona from Manchester City, this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Yan Couto is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are in the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they have identified the 21-year-old Girona full-back, on loan from Manchester City, in the summer transfer window.

The Advent of Yan Couto

Yan Couto has established himself as one of the best full-backs in La Liga since joining Girona on loan from Manchester City over 18 months ago. He spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Coritiba FC. Manchester City snapped him up in July 2020, but he has yet to establish a foothold at the Premier League club.

The Brazilian international has embarked on three loan spells away from Manchester City, two of them with Girona. The second stint has worked wonders for his career, and he has played his part in Girona’s rise to the upper echelons of the table this season. The 21-year-old has amassed two goals and seven assists in 28 appearances thus far this term.

The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, particularly in La Liga. Barcelona recently attempted to sign him before a move failed to materialise. And Yan Couto has now emerged as the top target for Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

Real Madrid Want Yan Couto

Real Madrid’s interest in Couto is understandable. Dani Carvajal is on the wrong side of 30, with his advancing age affecting his performance levels. While the Spanish international has stepped up this season, Real Madrid cannot afford to be unprepared for his inevitable decline.

In addition, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho are in the final months of their respective contracts with Real Madrid. So, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a young and highly-rated right-back, with Yan Couto emerging as the top candidate to be Dani Carvajal’s successor.

It is unclear if Manchester City will be open to parting ways with Couto in the summer transfer window. But he will return to the Etihad in the summer transfer window, with his loan spell with Girona ending when the 2023/24 season concludes.
