Ruben Neves reveals Barcelona desire

Ruben Neves has handed Barcelona a boost, with the 25-year-old midfielder revealing his desire to represent the Blaugrana.

In an interview with Canal 11, as quoted by 90min, Ruben Neves has subtly admitted to harbouring the dream of playing for Barcelona. But the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder added that he is focused on representing the Black Country outfit for the time being.

Neves told Canal 11 (h/t 90min), If you ask in general, all players want to play for Barcelona! It’s one of the best clubs in the world. It’s a privilege for me to be linked to this team.”

“I’m going to do my job. I’m going to focus as much as possible here because we have a lot of competition. I have to focus as much as possible on Wolves. Having a good season here, things will come very naturally.”

Neves is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, going from strength to strength since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Portuguese international has amassed 223 appearances for the Midlands outfit, chipping in with 26 goals and 12 assists thus far.

But the 25-year-old will enter the final year of his contract next summer, leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers in a spot of bother. And his performances have also captured the attention of several European bigwigs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona will look to sign Neves as a long-term successor for Sergio Busquets. And with the veteran Spanish midfielder well into his thirties, the Blaugrana will likely bring in a new midfielder next summer. So the Catalan giants are laying down the groundwork to secure the services of a successor.

Recent reports have claimed that Neves’s agent Jorge Mendes also offered the player to Barcelona. And some other outlets have suggested that Barcelona might even fast-track the move to January. So with the rumours growing like wildfire, Neves’s comments will come as a boost for the Blaugrana.

However, a move in the January transfer window might not be possible, considering Wolverhampton Wanderers are in a spot of bother in the Premier League. And with Neves being the skipper, the 25-year-old will unlikely agitate for a mid-season transfer. So Barcelona will likely have to wait until the summer to bring the Portuguese international to Camp Nou.
