La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly considering a January move for 25-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona might look to fast-track the move for Ruben Neves. The Catalan giants are considering signing the 25-year-old midfielder from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the January transfer window.

Ruben Neves has established himself as one of the most dependable midfielders in the Premier League since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Portuguese international started life at the Molineux in the EFL Championship. But he has played a vital role in helping the Midlands club become a Premier League mainstay.

The 25-year-old has turned out 223 times for Wolverhampton Wanderers, chipping in with 26 goals and 12 assists. But his stint with the Black Country outfit will likely end in 2023 amid interest from several European bigwigs. And Barcelona could be one of Neves’s prospective suitors.

The interest from Barcelona dates back to the summer transfer window this year. But the Blaugrana chose to bolster other departments after bringing in Franck Kessie in a Bosman move. However, Barcelona will look to complete the succession plan for Sergio Busquets in 2023.

The veteran Spanish midfielder has started the 2022/23 season slowly, with his performance levels waning. So the Catalan giants need to bring in a successor for Busquets next year, thus compelling them to draw up a wishlist of holding midfielders. And Ruben Neves has thus emerged as a viable target for Barcelona.

Recent reports have claimed that contact between Barcelona and the 25-year-old midfielder has intensified. And according to Fichajes, the Blaugrana will look to end Neves’s stint in the Premier League as early as January. That makes sense, considering Busquets’s performance levels are not improving.

Apart from Neves, Barcelona might also look to bolster the right-back department in the January transfer window. And the 25-year-old’s compatriot Diogo Dalot is Barcelona’s top target for the position. It will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants can bring both Portuguese internationals to Spotify Camp Nou from the Premier League this coming winter.
