Rio Ngumoha spills the beans on contract talks with Liverpool

Rio Ngumoha insists contract talks are progressing well, with the young winger seemingly committed to staying at Liverpool for the long run.

Liverpool may have one less thing to worry about, as the idea of Ngumoha wanting to remain at the club for many years will come as welcome news. The teenage winger enjoyed a breakthrough season last term and impressed at important moments, particularly when the team needed someone to step up.

He also scored some crucial goals along the way, although Ngumoha still has plenty of development ahead of him. The Liverpool academy graduate remains a raw talent, and new manager Andoni Iraola has used him carefully.

There was significant interest in the winger during the summer, with Bayern Munich among the clubs linked with a move. Liverpool were never interested in letting him leave, as Ngumoha is widely regarded as a key part of the club’s future. Although he may not yet be an established starter, there is a feeling it is only a matter of time before he secures a regular position.

During the summer, Liverpool were linked with several left-sided wingers, the position in which Ngumoha prefers to operate. Arsenal were also reportedly interested in the teenager, although, Liverpool had no intention of allowing him to leave, and Iraola has found ways to use him on both wings since the beginning of the new season.

Ngumoha has his say on contract talks

Liverpool are set to intensify contract talks with the breakthrough star, and Ngumoha has said that negotiations are “going well” in the background. The teenager’s comments, reported by Sky Sports, suggested that his representatives and Liverpool are working behind the scenes to agree a new contract.

Ngumoha said, “It’s all with my agent now. I think it is all going well. I am not too sure. I just let the football do the talking, I enjoy playing and all of that is in the back of my mind. I just play for Liverpool, and hopefully I can carry on doing well.”

When Arsenal were linked with a surprise move during the summer, Ngumoha was happy at Liverpool and never seriously pushed for an exit. He has also developed into a useful option from the bench, given the threat he provides to Liverpool’s attack.

For now, an announcement regarding a new long-term contract could be forthcoming in the coming months, and Liverpool would have done well to secure Ngumoha’s future.
