Pep Guardiola confirms Phil Foden contract talks

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that academy graduate Phil Foden is in talks to renew his contract.

With just a year left on his deal, Phil Foden’s future has been an interesting talking point. A number of top clubs have been keeping tabs on him, but it seems he is set to continue at Manchester City for years to come.

The Manchester-based giants have been working on a potential renewal for the academy graduate for some time, and their manager Pep Guardiola recently confirmed that the 49-cap English international is close to signing a new deal.

The Spanish manager said via Fabrizio Romano, “From what I heard, yes, the agreement is close.”

Foden has been a part of the Manchester City setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team in the summer of 2017. Over the years, the 25-year-old has been an integral part of their team and has played a big part in their six Premier League and one Champions League triumph.

Foden had a sensational 2023/24 season as he contributed towards 40 goals. He became the most potent weapon in Guardiola’s arsenal, as the English international could be deployed anywhere in attack.

Phil Foden will continue at Manchester City

While he has done a decent job over the last two seasons, Foden has not reached the levels he did during the 2023/24 campaign. As a result, there were doubts about his long-term future. With just a year left on his deal, a number of top clubs were ready to prise him away.

However, Guardiola, as well as the club, have been keen on ensuring he continues at the Etihad at all costs. The former Barcelona manager believes the 25-year-old is slowly getting back to his best, and his 15 goal contributions this season are just a sign of what is about to come.

The Premier League giants have been working on a potential renewal for weeks, and Guardiola has already given confirmation that the two parties could soon reach an agreement. If reports are to be believed, Foden will pen a new four-year deal at the Manchester-based club.
