The Reds secured their passage through to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Leeds United courtesy of goals from Divock Origi and Ben Woodburn.

Liverpool secured their passage through to the semi-finals of the league cup for the third year running with a 2-0 victory over Leeds United at Anfield. Goals from Divock Origi and young Ben Woodburn did the job for Jurgen Klopp as his hopes to avenge last year’s final heart-break stays alive.

Wijnaldum, Can and Mane were the only ones to retain their places from the side that beat Sunderland during the weekend as the boss looked to rest his key players for a tough run of December fixtures. Leeds United started off the blocks impressively and almost went ahead in under three minutes when Sacko was sent through on-goal only to be denied by Simon Mignolet in-goal.

There were lot of positives for the Reds after the game, especially the performances of academy boys like Ovie Ejaria, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn. Fans shared their thoughts on social media on a special night at Anfield that will well and truly be etched in the memory of a 17-year-old who finally burst into the lime-light.

However, the positive vibes did not blind the supporters of what was another poor performance from much-maligned left-back Alberto Moreno. The Spaniard enjoyed a decent outing against Tottenham in the previous round but his performance last night did little to help his case.
