David Lavelle comments on “shameless” Juventus bid for Alisson Becker

Juventus are exploring a loan move for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker this summer, according to David Lavelle.

Speaking to Italian outlet Oggi Sport Notizie, David Lavelle has spoken about Juventus’s interest in Alisson Becker and the Serie A club’s purported offer.

The Serie A giants have identified the Brazilian as an ambitious target as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping. However, they are reportedly unwilling to meet Liverpool’s valuation and are considering an initial loan deal with an option to buy, a proposal that has already drawn criticism.

Reacting to the speculation, football agent David Lavelle described the reported approach as “shameless”, suggesting Juventus are attempting to prise away one of Liverpool’s most important players without offering a deal that reflects his status.

He said, “It must be remembered that Liverpool have changed their manager. Iraola probably wants to take a look at everyone before starting. Alisson only has one year left on his contract. I know he’s reached a personal agreement with Juventus. I think the Brazilian is worth around €15 million or so, and the Bianconeri entered the race for this goalkeeper with a brazen offer.

“I don’t know if the Juventus management offered €7 million to Liverpool just because he’s in the final year of his contract. Alisson is 33 and was very injury-prone last season. Despite that, he’s undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Liverpool would like to keep him. Players of the caliber of Salah and Van Dijk are about to leave, and you need an older player in the dressing room. I think the Reds want to keep him for that reason .”

For Liverpool, losing their first-choice keeper would disrupt a defence already in transition under new manager Slot. Alisson has been Liverpool’s cornerstone since arriving from AS Roma in 2018. The 33-year-old’s leadership, shot-stopping and composure have delivered multiple major honours and cemented his position as the first choice.

Liverpool have no incentive to weaken their goalkeeping position, particularly when there is no financial pressure to sell. The report suggests Juventus are hoping Liverpool could be persuaded by a creative formula rather than a straightforward permanent transfer. However, a loan with an option to buy falls well short of the type of offer expected for a player who remains under contract and continues to perform at the highest level.

Liverpool have already planned for the future by bringing in Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but the expectation has been that the ex-Valencia star will initially compete with, rather than replace, Alisson. The club view succession planning as essential, but there has been little indication that they are ready to part ways with their current No. 1.

For Juventus, signing a goalkeeper of Alisson’s calibre would signal their ambition to reclaim Serie A dominance and challenge in Europe. Yet convincing Liverpool to negotiate will be an entirely different matter.

Unless the Bianconeri return with a substantially revised offer, negotiations appear remote. Lavelle’s assessment reflects Liverpool’s position: a loan bid for arguably their most influential player will not be taken seriously, especially when he is happy and content at Anfield.
