Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff has claimed that the Catalan giants have been monitoring Ajax attacker Mohammed Kudus for a long time.

In an interview with RAC1, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Jordi Cruyff has claimed that Mohammed Kudus is on the radar of Barcelona. But the Barcelona director added that the Catalan giants are simply monitoring the 22-year-old Ajax attacker for the time being.

Mohammed Kudus has seen his fortunes improve considerably since failing to secure a move away from Ajax. The Eredivisie champions kept hold of the Ghanaian international against his wishes after losing several players in the summer transfer window. And the decision has paid off for both parties.

The 22-year-old has ten goals and two assists in 21 appearances for Ajax this season, including five strikes in the Eredivisie. And Kudus has carried that form into the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring twice against South Korea to take Ghana to the cusp of reaching the Round of 16. And it has now emerged that he is on the radar of Barcelona.

Barcelona director Jordi Cruyff has claimed that he has been following Kudus’s progress at Ajax. But he added that the Catalan giants are only keeping tabs on the 22-year-old for the time being and not considering signing him yet.

“I saw him play a year ago and have followed his progress at Ajax. But we’re not at the point of saying ‘Barcelona want this player,’ not at all. He is a player that has caught the attention with his performances and goals at the World Cup. He’s caught my attention especially because there is a debate in the Netherlands about his position, whether he’s an advanced midfielder or a forward.”

Barcelona can do with a player of Kudus’s qualities, as he can play as a box-to-box midfielder and a striker. With the Blaugrana in the market for both kinds of players, the 22-year-old is an option worth considering. But signing the Ajax attacker will not be straightforward, with Real Madrid also interested in him.

In addition, several Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Ghanaian international. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona will firm up the interest in Kudus and try to prise him away from Eredivisie champions Ajax.
