Arsenal and Chelsea have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Mika Godts, as Barcelona are not keen on his signature.
Mika Godts has had an impressive rise at Ajax, and on the back of it, a number of top clubs are now interested in signing him. The Belgian attacking sensation is expected to be on the move this summer, as clubs are gearing up to make a significant offer for the youngster.
Arsenal and Chelsea are two top Premier League clubs that are interested in his services, and they have received a significant boost as Matteo Moretto has confirmed that Barcelona are not after the 20-year-old. While reports have linked them with the Belgian forward, the Catalan giants won’t be making a move for him.
While speaking on Marca’s radio programme La Pizarra de Quintana, Moretto said, “I’ll tell you something else, the name of Mika Godts, the Ajax winger, has come up often,”
“He is very good, very talented, and has already been offered to Barça multiple times. Barça does not want to pursue this option further at the moment.
“They are not interested. They prefer a profile with much more experience, a winning profile.”
Godts joined United at the start of 2023, and in around a year’s time, he got promoted to their first team. The 20-year-old prefers playing out wide on the left, but he is equally effective on the right as well as in the number ten role.
The 20-year-old has been on fire this season. He has been involved in 40 matches and has contributed towards 31 goals. His performances have helped him break into the Belgian national team ahead of the World Cup and have also placed him on the radar of the top clubs.
Arsenal and Chelsea are frontrunners to sign Godts
He is gearing up for a big money, and the Premier League looks the most likely destination for the youngster, who has massive potential. Arsenal and Chelsea are both keen on having him in their squad, as they seek more depth in the final third.
He is a perfect fit for the Blues’ project that revolves around young stars, while the Gunners believe he could be a massive upgrade on the left flank and can chip in at other positions when needed. The London clubs have already sent scouts to watch him in action, and they look set to make a move for his signature.
While Barcelona were seen as a massive threat for both clubs, the Catalan giants are not in the mix despite the fact that they have been offered the chance to sign him on multiple occasions. It will be interesting to see where Godts ends up playing his football next season and whether he makes the jump to the Premier League.
