Sunderland could consider Thomas Frank as a potential solution to their problems and replace the under-fire Regis Le Bris as a result.

According to Football Insider, Regis Le Bris’ time at Sunderland has come under acute scrutiny following a dismal run of form in the Premier League, and the club are considering options. The club are seeking Thomas Frank to replace the Frenchman if results continue to go against the team, with the 53-year-old former Tottenham manager free to take up a new role in football management.

A lot of Premier League managers have come under the spotlight of late, with the likes of Crystal Palace’s Pierre Sage, Manchester United’s Michael Carrick and recently Matthias Jaissle all under scrutiny owing to recent performances. Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris is the latest to join the ranks, as the Frenchman’s immediate future has become a topic of discussion.

Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League standings following their loss to newly promoted Coventry City, and this has raised eyebrows about the work Le Bris is doing at the club. The Frenchman certainly has massive credit in the bank following a stellar first season in the top flight, which saw the Black Cats qualify for the Europa League.

However, from the ownership level, they have invested heavily in the squad over the last three windows, and could pull the plug on Le Bris’ time at the club if results continue to evade. There are some names being considered, especially that of 53-year-old former Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.

Will Thomas Frank replace Regis Le Bris?

Frank has emerged at the centre of a managerial merry-go-round in the Premier League, with the 53-year-old Dane viewed as a top choice for many clubs. Recently, Fulham were considering him as a replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa, although the Spaniard has since turned things around at the club in a positive way.

He remains the top target for Crystal Palace as they contemplate bringing in Frank as a replacement for the under-fire Sage. The decision from Sunderland about sacking Le Bris could give Frank another option to consider, although now it could turn out to be a race between Palace and the Black Cats on who might win the race for the 53-year-old former Tottenham manager.

At the moment, Sunderland are expected to keep their decision under wraps and head into the international break with Le Bris still in charge. Things could change depending on how the team performs in midweek and at the weekend, which may force them to sack the Frenchman and then approach Frank with an offer.
