Florentino Perez’s Real Madrid are unlikely to get their hands on their long-term managerial target, Jurgen Klopp.
According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of Jurgen Klopp, as the former Liverpool boss doesn’t seem to have any intentions of returning to club management. While he has been extensively linked with a move to Los Blancos in recent weeks, a move to La Liga doesn’t appeal to him at this point.
After making quite a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund, Klopp took on the challenge of managing Liverpool. He transformed the Reds into a winning machine and got them back up to the top of European football. During his time at Anfield, he won the Champions League as well as the Premier League title.
Despite all the success he had, Klopp ended up leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2024 because of the demanding nature of the job. He wanted to take a break from football. While he did make a return at the start of 2025 and joined the Red Bull group, the 58-year-old works as a global sports director.
Klopp does not seem keen on joining Real Madrid
While his contract runs until 2029, he has been constantly linked with a return to management. Real Madrid are the club that seem to be very keen on his signature. The Spanish giants have a long-standing interest in him, and they would love to have him on their bench ahead of next season.
Alvaro Arbeloa, who was handed the reins as an interim boss post the sacking of Xabi Alonso, is unlikely to continue beyond this season. As a result, Los Blancos are looking at potential options, and Klopp is always a part of their wishlist.
However, it seems they won’t be able to convince him to make a return to club football. Klopp could return to management, but not at the club level. He could take up the role of head coach at the international level.
The German national team job has great significance for the former Liverpool boss. It represents a different challenge, and the workload is also much lighter than at the club level. More importantly, it’s a deeply emotional challenge for the 58-year-old, who wants to see his country succeed once again at the highest level.
