Liverpool are ready to make an approach towards bringing Xabi Alonso to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.

Santi Aouna insists Liverpool are ready to send a bid to Bayer Leverkusen for their manager Xabi Alonso. The former Reds midfielder has emerged as the favourite Jurgen Klopp replacement in the sights of the club, with Bayern Munich also very interested.

Liverpool make their move for Xabi Alonso

Liverpool have begun plans to lure Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as Jurgen Klopp’s replacement. The Spaniard’s name emerged immediately in the aftermath of the German’s announcement to leave the club in the summer.

Liverpool have been optimistic about landing Alonso despite their many challenges in the market for their former midfielder. The Reds have considered other names, but the Spaniard is their top priority, and they are still deciding whether to make their move for the Leverkusen manager.

As per Santi Aouna, Liverpool are unfazed about the prospect of Bayern Munich’s interest in Alonso and are ready to proceed with their bid. They might make an imminent approach and start discussions with Bayer Leverkusen to iron out the details for the Spaniard.

Leverkusen might prefer to wait until the summer, as they already consider the links between Alonso and Liverpool to be a distraction from their title challenge. As per Aouna, Alonso reportedly prefers a move to England, meaning the Reds are the favourites to land him.

Liverpool faces Bayern threat in Alonso’s pursuit

Bayern Munich, like Liverpool, is one of Alonso’s former clubs and is equally interested in landing the Spaniard for next season. The Merseysiders were put on high alert late on Wednesday after Thomas Tuchel decided to step down after the season ended.

The German’s impending departure certainly brought Bayern into the equation for Alonso, although the current report states the Spaniard would prefer a move to Liverpool. Aouna also suggested the same and feels Liverpool is not too worried about Bayern’s potential involvement in the pursuit and remains confident about landing their former midfielder.
