Bayern Munich have entered the race for the services of Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso amidst interest from Liverpool.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich are ready to battle it out with Liverpool for the services of Xabi Alonso. Both clubs are on the lookout for a new manager and they would like to bring back their former player at the club.

Alonso’s incredible start as a manager

Alonso had an illustrious career where he played for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich. He might no longer be a player but the 42-year-old is still making the difference as a manager. His Bayer Leverkusen have been a force to reckon with this season.

They haven’t lost even once this season and are topping the Bundesliga charts having smashed Bayern Munich in the recent past. Alonso has the golden opportunity to win the treble with the German club in his very first season and he is quite focused on the job at hand.

Bayern and Liverpool to battle it out for Alonso’s signatures

Irrespective of what happens at the end of the season, he has already made a reputation for himself as a manager and top clubs have been linked with him. His former clubs Liverpool and Bayern are both looking for a new boss for different reasons.

The German giants haven’t enjoyed much success under Thomas Tuchel, they could have their first trophy-less season in years. As a result, there are chances of a mutual separation between the two parties in the summer at the latest.

They have already identified Alonso as his replacement, the former Bayern midfielder is their priority for the role. Similar is the case of Liverpool, they are keen on having their former star back at the club and the German club are aware of the English club’s interest and are ready to battle it out.

But, Liverpool’s reasons are different, Jurgen Klopp has decided to part ways with the club. The German manager is all set to end his successful stint at the end of the season. The Reds are looking for someone who can lead them into the new era and deliver similar levels of success if not more. And, they feel Alonso is their man.
