Chelsea have opened talks with Ruben Amorim to become their new manager, with the Portuguese open to switching away from Sporting CP.

According to Fichajes, Chelsea have begun talks with Ruben Amorim to become their new manager. The 38-year-old Portuguese manager remains high on their list of potential Graham Potter replacements, with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann also firm contenders.

Chelsea’s project could hit rock bottom if results continue to deteriorate. Brighton comprehensively beat the Blues at Stamford Bridge, which may have effectively dealt a blow to their European chances. They remain 11th on the table and have many more tough fixtures before the season ends.

Their season has had plenty of downs, which has seen Frank Lampard take over as their fourth manager in a single campaign. In his second stint at the club, the Chelsea legend has lost all three of his games in charge, as things look bleak for the former Everton boss.

Chelsea hope to bring in someone who could steady the ship and build the project for what it was meant to achieve. The new owners have come in and spent around £600 million in the two windows. But the team still lacked quality on all fronts.

The search for the Graham Potter replacement continues as several names have been shortlisted. Chelsea are planning on another round of interview with Luis Enrique, while Julian Nagelsmann also features highly. The Spaniard and the German are high-profile options, but few have gone under the radar.

Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim is such a name and has now emerged as one of the leading candidates for the job. Chelsea reportedly opened talks with the 38-year-old to become their manager. He was on their list for some time. But in light of the other names, they may have played the waiting game.

While Chelsea consider appointing Amorim, he also has interest from Tottenham for their vacant managerial position. The Sporting CP man has a contract until 2026, meaning any interested party may have to pay a hefty compensation fee to acquire him.

His record as a manager has improved this season, and many have showered praise for his style of play. He could become a huge hit in the Premier League under the right circumstances and remains open to managing in England.

While the reports suggest Chelsea are ready to install Amorim as their manager, that is far from the truth. The Blues are stepping up their chase and could determine whether appointing the 38-year-old manager would fit their ideas.
