Chelsea have parted ways with Graham Potter this week, and Ruben Amorim has emerged as a contender to replace him.

Graham Potter was backed heavily with transfer funds. But he was not able to get the best out of his squad. A report from Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea have approached former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann as their top candidate to replace Potter. But they are keen on 38-year-old Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim as well.

The Blues are yet to speak with the German club regarding compensation for Nagelsmann. Apparently, Bayern have an agreement with the German manager that if he takes over at a new club this season, they will be in line to receive a compensation.

Chelsea are currently 11th in the league table, and they are highly unlikely how to make it to the top four. A club of their stature deserve to play in the Champions League and compete for major trophies. That has not been the case so far, and Chelsea have now chosen to move in a different direction.

The Chelsea hierarchy are currently locked in internal discussions as they look to bring in the best possible replacement. Apparently, the Premier League giants appreciate 38-year-old Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese tactician has already helped Sporting win the league title during his time with the club. And he has been linked with other Premier League clubs as well in recent months. Amorim has proven his quality in the Champions League as well with Sporting CP, and his team dominated Tottenham Hotspur during the group stages earlier this season.

The 38-year-old could prove to be a quality acquisition for the London club. And it remains to be seen whether Chelsea can convince him to take over. Amorim might not want to abandon his project at Sporting CP midway through the campaign. So Chelsea might have to wait until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the Blues as well. But the Premier League side are yet to have any contact with the Argentine manager. Chelsea have put together a talented young squad, and they have spent significant sums of money over the last few windows.

They will hope to put together a formidable squad capable of winning every major trophy. So their next managerial appointment will have to be spot-on. They cannot afford to take any risks, and a proven winner could help Chelsea climb back to the top of English football.

Amorim is rated highly across Europe, and he has a big future ahead of him. A move to Chelsea could help him showcase his qualities as a manager and also give him the opportunity to truly challenge for the major trophies in European football.
