Manchester United are reportedly the front-runners in pursuit of Harry Kane, who is also a target for rivals Chelsea and Manchester City.
According to a report by Football Insider, Manchester United seem to have taken the lead in the race to sign Harry Kane in the summer transfer window. The 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur striker is also the subject of interest from Chelsea and Manchester City.
Harry Kane has transformed into a goal machine as well as a brilliant playmaker all rolled into one since making his breakthrough at Tottenham over half a decade ago. With a phenomenal record of 221 goals and 47 assists in 336 appearances for Spurs to boot, the 27-year-old has cemented his spot as one of the best players of his generation.
Kane’s progress has also helped him become an indispensable figure for the England national side, with the player being appointed as the new captain following the retirement of Wayne Rooney. And at UEFA Euro 2020, Kane has led the Three Lions’ charge by scoring four goals so far, including one in the semi-final over Denmark, which helped them book their place in the final against Italy.
At club level, though, Kane is facing an uncertain future following yet another abysmal campaign for Tottenham, with reports suggesting that the player is keen on a summer exit. Such a situation has alerted a number of top clubs across Europe, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all interested in him.
Manchester United’s interest stems from the fact that Mason Greenwood is still some way off being ready to lead the line for the Red Devils week in week out. With Anthony Martial leaving a lot to be desired last term and Edinson Cavani in the twilight of his career, it makes sense for Manchester United to want to sign a striker like Kane, who can provide them the best years of his career.
As for Chelsea, they are coming off a season wherein Jorginho was their top scorer in the Premier League. Such a situation is bound to give way for the pursuit of a top-class striker, with Kane being viewed as a solution to that end at Stamford Bridge following a slow start to life as a Chelsea player for Timo Werner.
Meanwhile, Manchester City were the first suitor to make a move for Kane this summer, with the interest hardly being unfounded following the end of Sergio Aguero’s legendary spell at the Etihad. With Gabriel Jesus not proving to be consistent enough, it is but obvious that the Premier League champions need to sign a striker this summer.

However, it is Manchester United who seem to have left Chelsea and Manchester City behind in the race to sign Kane. As per the report, the Red Devils have held constructive talks with Tottenham over a summer move, despite their public stance being that of reluctant sellers. However, a tricky “asking price” has been set for Kane, who will cost £100 million plus two players.
Football Insider also suggests that Kane has confessed his desire of quitting the north London club to his friends. In such a scenario, Manchester United will relish the chance of being in pole position to land the Englishman ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City and it remains to be seen if they are ready to pay heed to Tottenham’s demands.
