Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly among the clubs that are in a transfer tussle to sign free agent Jerome Boateng.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jerome Boateng could well be headed to England in the summer transfer window, with a trio of Premier League clubs interested in the soon-to-be free agent. The Bayern Munich defender is the subject of interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Boateng is heading into the summer transfer window after ending a decade-long stint with Bayern Munich, having joined them from Manchester City in the summer of 2011. During this time, the 32-year-old established himself as one of the best defenders in the game, amassing 363 appearances at the Allianz Arena while also chipping in with 10 goals and 25 assists.

Over the course of his spell with Bayern, Boateng also won every trophy on offer at club level twice while winning the FIFA World Cup with Germany in 2014. However, with his contract with the Bundesliga champions expiring this summer, the cultured defender is set to become a free agent. Such a situation seems to have piqued the interest of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

In Boateng, Chelsea could repeat their formula with Thiago Silva, who has been a huge success upon joining from PSG as a free agent last summer. However, with Silva in the twilight of his career and captain Azpilicueta on the wrong side of 30 as well, a prudent move would perhaps be to sign a player who is a tad-bit younger and can offer more years to the Blues.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have already bolstered their defence by reaching an agreement to sign Ibrahima Konate. However, with both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez proving to be injury prone over the course of their respective stints with Liverpool, it might be a sensible decision to sign a second central defender in the form of Boateng, who will also add some leadership in the squad.

As for Manchester United, an experienced head to pair up with captain Harry Maguire could well be a solid move, seeing as the relatively younger options in Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have not really worked out well. Manchester United, though, are prioritising a move for Jules Kounde and Raphael Varane, who is also being hotly pursued by Chelsea.

Nevertheless, as per the report, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United all appear to be keen on signing Boateng on a Bosman move and it remains to be seen if the 32-year-old German defender does end up making his way to the Premier League this summer.
