Chelsea and Manchester City have reportedly been left behind by Bayern Munich in the race for the transfer of Reading FC prodigy Michael Olise.

According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, reigning German and European champions Bayern Munich have emerged as the front-runners in the race to sign Reading FC starlet Michael Olise, who is also a target for Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder began his footballing journey at the Manchester City academy and spent some time in the Chelsea youth setup before switching to Reading in 2015. Having risen through the ranks rapidly, Olise broke into the senior team in 2019 and has not looked back since.

To date, the teenage midfielder has managed to make 64 appearances for Reading, contributing 5 goals and 12 assists. His performances in the current season have been brilliant as he has managed five goals and ten assists in 35 Championship outings, establishing himself as one of the finest young players in the second tier.

Olise’s rise to prominence with the Royals has seen him draw admiring glances from some of the top clubs in the Premier League, including the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, while two of his youth clubs Chelsea and Manchester City are also intent on re-signing him in the summer.

However, it has now emerged that Bayern Munich are leading the chasing pack in the race to land the 19-year-old. The Bavarian giants have already raided Reading once this year for left-back Omar Richards, who has signed a pre-contract agreement to join the Bundesliga champions at the end of the season.

Now, Die Roten are hoping to make a swoop for Olise as well. The 19-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Championship club and has shown no intention of wanting to pen a new deal. So, it is very much likely that Reading cash in on him in the summer, with a £10 million price being mooted.

It now remains to be seen whether Bayern Munich seal the deal for the French youth international or whether either Chelsea or Manchester City are able to re-sign their former youth prospect in the summer transfer window. As things stand though, the Bavarians appear to be in the driving seat.
