Wayne Rooney is reportedly facing a hurdle in his attempt to exit Manchester United since he is struggling to find a new club that is compliant with his wage demands.
According to a report by The Mirror, Wayne Rooney has to face the prospect of being stuck on the bench at Manchester United next season due to lack of offers from other clubs. Rooney is struggling to find a new club that offers him a sum close to his wages of £300,000-a-week.
He still has has one year left plus the option of a second on his current United deal and the Red Devils are not ready to let him leave for nothing.
Rooney still remains United and England’s all-time leading goalscorer and is a big name. He still has the potential to buff up a club’s on field as well as commercial success and yet there have been no takers who are willing to comply with his wage demands.
Looking at his statistics, one can argue that he is a declining force right now. Rooney scored just eight goals in 39 appearances for United last season, making it his worst return since arriving from Everton as an 18-year-old way back in 2004. In fact, his last three seasons have been the lowest-scoring campaigns of his United career.
Despite an evident loss of his creativity and those sudden surges of pace like before, his experience still remains a vital commodity to Mourinho. He did show flashes of his former self during the final weeks of last season which means that he is still capable of providing support to a new club.
However, his poor form at United for majority of last season has cost him dearly in the form of the England captaincy and a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
An interest from China’s Super League has also cooled down which can be attributed to the Beijing government’s new 100 per cent tax on foreign signings.
