Manchester United have reportedly slapped an £80 million price tag on David De Gea, who is a priority summer target for Real Madrid

Daily Mail are reporting that Manchester United have driven up the asking price for David De Gea, slapping an £80 million price tag on the Spanish international. The player is being heavily tailed by Real Madrid, who have been tipped to land the player in the summer transfer window.

David De Gea has been instrumental to United’s campaigns since joining the club as a promising goalkeeper in 2011 from Atletico Madrid. The player slowly established himself as the undisputed first choice at Old Trafford and has become synonymous with the club’s successes.

This season too, under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, the player has continued to shine, amassing 35 Premier League appearances with 14 shutouts to his name. The player’s importance has been highlighted every now and then, with the stopper producing match-defining performances on a consistent basis.

The player, though, has been regularly linked with a move away from Old Trafford, back to his home country. Real Madrid have been looking for a world-class goalkeeper to take charge of the goal and despite the heroics of Keylor Navas, Los Blancos are reportedly still aiming to bring De Gea back to the Spanish capital.

It is worth remembering that Real Madrid came close to sealing the De Gea deal back in the Louis Van Gaal era at Old Trafford, only for the fax machine to fault, which resulted in the stopper staying put at the club. There are rumours that the incident has inserted doubts in the player’s mind as to Real Madrid’s seriousness to sign him.

Nevertheless, the player is still expected to be a summer target for Real Madrid, which has seen Manchester United already look for replacements, tailing the likes of Jan Oblak and even Joe Hart. The club also has Sergio Romero, who has performed his duties well whenever called upon and Mourinho could choose to promote him to be the number one at Old Trafford.

However, as per the latest updates, Manchester United have driven up their asking price for David De Gea, a possible aftermath of Manchester City signing Ederson Moraes in a deal reported to be worth more than £30 million. The Red Devils have slapped a mammoth £80 million price tag on De Gea – an amount that may get Real thinking.

Real Madrid, though, are unlikely to shy away from the deal for the cause of money and are still likely to pursue the superstar, provided Zidane decides to recruit the player for his project at Santiago Bernabeu.
