Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina has grown frustrated at his role at Arsenal and will look for a new club this summer, according to reports

According to the Times, Arsenal are facing another battle to keep hold of a first-team player as David Ospina is growing increasingly weary of his role as Petr Cech’s back-up and the Colombian international has decided to quit the club this summer.

Ospina has become something of a cup specialist during his stay at Arsenal. He has featured heavily in the domestic cup competitions and the UEFA Champions League but is yet to make a single Premier League appearance this season.

Ospina’s current contract runs until 2019 but the Times claim that Ospina already “felt betrayed” all the way back in 2015 when the Gunners decided to sign Petr Cech from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, just one year after signing the Colombian in a £3 million deal from Nice.

Cech’s arrival has led to Ospina making a paltry 4 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons, and the Times claim that it was his vocal unhappiness that led to Arsene Wenger guaranteeing that he would start all Arsenal’s Champions League and FA Cup matches.

This was clearly a move that was designed to keep the goalkeeper at the club but the Times state that Ospina’s patience has now finally run out and he will leave the club this summer, despite Arsenal already being on the lookout for a replacement for Cech.

This has led to some unhappiness on his part and the worrying thing for Arsenal is the fact that he is just one in a long list of players they could potentially lose this summer – without even taking Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez into account.

Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kieran Gibbs will also have only one year remaining on their contract at the end of this season and all three have yet to be offered new contracts prompting speculation that the trio – who Arsene Wenger once included as a part of his “British Core” – will leave in the summer.

To add to the uncertainty, Arsene Wenger’s own future is in the most doubt it has ever been in and it seems increasingly likely that the legendary Frenchman will also be leaving the Gunners at the end of the season.

Whether it comes to contract renewals, departures or arrivals, it is shaping up to be one of the most uncertain and busy summers the Arsenal fans have seen in some time.
