Transfer Rumour: West Ham and Sunderland target Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is a target of a number of Premier League clubs for the January transfer window.

The Englishman isn’t a favourite of Jurgen Klopp it would seem, with Sturridge getting far lesser game time at the club than he would like. Klopp has often chosen to go with Roberto Firmino up front for most of his games this season with Coutinho and Saido Mane on the flanks, and the results have been superb for the Reds. The last start that Daniel Sturridge received was his 55-minute appearance against Chelsea, where he failed to register a goal. It is likely he only started that game because of a last minute injury to Firmino.

According to Calciomercato, Premier League clubs such as West Ham United, Sunderland and Stoke City all want to take the Englishman to their respective clubs in January. Sturridge has a contract with the Reds which expires in 2019. The former Chelsea and Manchester City man has never quite been able to live up to his great form of 2013-14 season after being plagued with injuries. On the final day of the 2016 summer transfer window, it was reported that he was offered to Arsenal on loan in a bid to get him more game time.

Sturridge would no doubt be a direct starter for all three of these teams, bringing an extra dimension to their attack. West Ham are likely the only team among the three who might actually be able to afford him, with Stoke City and Sunderland likely to be looking for a loan move. All three teams are in the relegation zone after enduring horrendous starts to their season, so it doesn’t look to be an attractive prospect for the Englishman who, in 98 appearances for Liverpool over the course of 4 and a half seasons, has scored 55 goals. Should Sturridge wish to leave, he will surely have top European clubs lining up for his signature and ones that might actually be able to afford Liverpool’s asking price.
